Jeremiah Smith is now Ohio State's career leader in receiving yards.

The junior wide receiver passed Michael Jenkins during Saturday's game against Kent State in Columbus, breaking a record that had stood at 2,898 yards.

Smith reaches the record early

Smith entered the game with 2,873 career receiving yards. He caught a 13 yard pass on Ohio State's opening drive, then moved past Jenkins with a 23 yard reception on the Buckeyes' second possession.

The milestone arrived early in Smith's third college season. He produced 2,558 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns across his first two years at Ohio State, then added 315 yards through the first two games of 2026.

His record came one week after he caught eight passes for 164 yards and a touchdown against Texas.

More Ohio State history is within reach

Smith is also closing on two other major program records. Chris Olave holds the Ohio State mark with 35 career touchdown receptions, while Emeka Egbuka leads the school with 205 career catches. Smith began Saturday five touchdowns behind Olave and 26 receptions behind Egbuka.

The receiving yardage record is already his. Smith reached it before completing his junior season, further separating a career that has included a national championship, a Rose Bowl offensive most valuable player award and consecutive Big Ten Receiver of the Year honors.
